Kirsty from Parenting Little Learners and myself ran a Parent Education Evening last Thu in Wellington.
We had a great turn-out and some fab sponsors - Baby on the Move, Radicool Kids, Munch Cupboard and For Mums.
We will be running the same evening for parents in the Northern Suburbs Fri 16th Mar https://www.parentinglittlelearners.com/events
From the event we've already got some great feedback. One mum had her son eat something totally unexpected and well out of his comfort zone. Another mother addressed a behavioural issue differently and found her child responded completely differently too and it made a normally stressful situation really fun.
This is where it's often hard for us as parents. We get so used to doing and saying things in a certain way and it's challenging to change that. However, as the old saying states "doing the same thing in the same way but expecting different results is the definition of madness".
I see it all the time in my work where parents have almost a set routine around feeding with their children and can't find a way to do things differently. This means that their children are also often stuck repeating the same actions.
And it's normal, we develop coping mechanisms and rely on them to get us through the day. It's not until someone shows us a different way to address issues and suddenly we say "YES, that makes sense".
This is what Kirsty and I are looking to provide. Simple, easy to implement strategies that enable you to parent your child with some extra tools available. So you can change those patterns of behaviour and support eating more variety.
If you're not based in Wellington and would like to listen to a recording of the events we will be making these available for purchase in April.
