I always, always tell parents that it's not their job to decide what their kids like or don't like in terms of food. Yes we've been feeding them for 3, 5, 10 or more years but still they get to tell us and the rest of the world whether they like it or not.
This was banged home to me yet again with some Thai fish cakes I made. Max loves fish so is always happy to eat dinner that includes it. Joe loves 99% of food but is not keen on fish so it's never his favourite meal.
This time, he tried a corner of the fish cakes, declared that he loved them and promptly ate 3. Max on the other hand ate one and then decided not to have anymore.
When it came to lunchboxes Joe was delighted to have them again.
This proves to me yet again that as parents we just don't know until we serve what kids are going to like and what they are not. This is especially true of toddlers who love peanut butter in the morning and spit it out as yucky in the afternoon.
If you'd asked me before the meal I would have bet several hundred dollars on Max loving them and Joe struggling to eat half.
But then I would have been totally wrong. And poorer ...
